I am a lover of good stories! And I gravitate to certain genres, which are mostly what I prefer to edit:
general, women’s, Christian, contemporary, and literary fiction
humorous, mature, contemporary, and historical romance
retellings, adaptations, and modernizations of fairy tales, legends, and classics
With developmental editing and beta reading, it is smart to hire an editor who knows, reads, and enjoys the genre of your story. You want an editor who knows and understands their tropes, rhythms, structure, etc.
For copy editing and polishing, however, the genre doesn’t matter as much. Your editor just needs to know the rules of language mechanics: punctuation, grammar, syntax, etc. for whatever style guide you follow. (I am most familiar with Chicago Manual of Style.)
So even if you’ve written a book in another genre (see my Miscellany and Add-On Services page) or one that defies classification (how exciting is that?!) and think you might like to work with me, please contact me anyway! :)
