The Muse Writers Center is Hampton Roads’ nonprofit literary center. We offer creative writing classes and seminars for beginning and experienced writers–whether they be adults, children, or teens; house a resource center in Norfolk for area writers; and host readings, open mics, and special events at The Muse and around the region. We never turn anyone away because of their financial situation and have provided tuition help and scholarships to more than 1,000 people. Our outreach to youth and schools, senior living communities, and the military community is always expanding.

This is Muse Teaching Artist and Virginia Poet Laureate Luisa Igloria reading her poem "America" at our Legit Lit Vol. II: Our Words, Our Voices: Writers for Change event in July! We at The Muse have always believed that writing can be a powerful tool to express difficult stories and to grapple with the complexities of the current world.

Do you know a teen looking to develop their unique writing voice in a fun atmosphere? Do they want to learn a new genre or meet other writers? The Muse offers online TEEN WRITERS WORKSHOPS. Fiction, creative nonfiction, & poetry are explored. The classes include creative exercises, prompts, readings, & time to comment on each other’s work.
